I originally wrote 4 articles on GW, but when I took them to the Hutchinson, News I was told they
would only run 1, 500 word article. Here following are my originally.
In 2008 we are hearing daily of the catastrophe predictions in weather change, rising of the seas, drought, more and bigger storms, and the list goes on and on.
When any claim is repeated over and over, even with no solid evidence to back up the claim, it becomes fact! One's rational thought and reason is "tweaked", and we just believe.
The new mantra we are hearing is CO2 and GW. Al Gore say's it is a finished science, John R. Christy a climatolgist, and in the other half of group that received the Nobel with Big Al, says yes we are in a warming, but it is not a proven fact CO2 is the cause. He believes the earth goes through a warming and a cooling every 1500 yrs, this all has happen before.
If you are old enough to remember the 60's, there was a trendy movement, where people wore a botton that said "stop the world I want to get off." A group of scientist named "Club of Rome" believed the world was being weighted down by over population.
Paul Ehrlick's book "The Population Bomb", written in 1968 was giving England a 50-50 % chance of surving into the 21st century. An education film of the 60's showed life in Manhattan being so polluted that the population would have to wear gas masks.
There were dire predictions in the 70's of Global Cooling- Yes Cooling. In 1980 Jimmy Carter released "Global 2000 report". It stated how the world was becoming worse everyday, we were running out of foof, water, minerals, forest, and energy for us to survive.
Does any of this doom and gloom sound familair? We now have a new "enemie", Global Warming.
Julian Simon told anyone who would listen that all the predictions in the 60's and 70's were globaloney. It turned out he was right, but he never received an award. Paul Ehrlich, who's every prediction was eventually proven wrong, he won a Mac Arthur Foundation "genius award". Herman Kahn challenged all the "settled sciences" in the 70's to understand all the hype was just hype. Now we are hearing the "settled science" of GW, the familair ring of doom and gloom. Big Al's drought, famom, sea rise and increase deases.
Heartland Institute issued a challenge-"Anyone who can prove CO2 causes GW would win 225,000. So far they have had no takers. They have also issued a debate challenge to Big Al, but he refuses. Why?
When GW became a debate between the Dems and Rep., I couldn't understand why. If the earth is in such peril, why political?
A little red flag!
When Big Al accepted his award for his movie "An Inconvenient Truth", I found it quite telling that he bought "Carbon Credits" to cover his "global footprints." That sounds impressive, but if someone truly believes the world is in such peril, he would do more than buy credits. Than again a select few can buy credits, and every one else can make the sacrifice and deal with the dramatiac life style changes that are to be made.
My little red flag just got a little bit bigger!
Now we have all this new vocaulabary, all the trendy catch words, Cap & Trade= actually big money $50-$300 billion floating around. $50 on a ton of carbon, .50 cents added to gas tax. The sad truth, all this won't stop GW, it maybe could slow it down a couple years.
Remember that saying "follow the money" BIG red flag.
The Kyoto plan was supose to be a start. Actually CO2 has increased in the EU, while the US has dropped, doing this voluntary for the US, Cap and Trade in the EU is very costly and proven it doesn't work. This is the same program the UN wants to push, and now even our own Congress is working a bill through to implement cap and trade.
Can't Congress see the big RED FLAGS!
Should just maybe an open dialogue between Big Al, environmentalist, and the 100 scientist who wrote the Secretary General of the UN, Deacember 13, 2007. These scientist stated CO2 is a non-polluting gas that is essential to plant photosynthesis, and the approch the UN is taking will actually increase human suffering from future climate change.
The phenomina such as glacial retreat, sea level rise, and imigration of certain species. All these events fall with in the bounds of known natural variability. The record rise per decade also falls into the natural rated of warming and cooling over the last 10,000 yrs. Suprising fact, there has been no warming since 1998. The temperature had plateau following the 20th Century warming, which they feel is just climate cycling.
They also state the Kyoto Protocal is a faliure. The EU CO2 trading market is costly and ineffective. The natural climate change should be addressed, to help the most vunerable citizens to adapt. Tl try and prevent climate change from occurring is ultimately futile. One hundred scientist from 21 countries signed this letter. Their observation to help the poor follows Bjorn Lomborg evulations.
Lomborg is an Economist and compared the dollar value of benefit to help or use more money to try and stop Mother Nature. Is Global Warming happening- Yes. Is CO2 the cause, they actually don't know. We mortals can't stop Mother Nature.
I had been reading everything I can find on global warming, so when Hutchinson was having a presentation from Will Steger and J Drake Hamilton at the Fos, I went. If I had not been studying ''The Skeptical Enviornmentalist" by Lomborg. I would have believed at the end of the presentation we were going to burn up or drown soon. On the q&a I asked what had caused Greenland in 1126 to be free of ice so the Vikings could settle there. The answer was very telling "That was than and it had nothing to do with the present." There was no CO2 problem back than, just maybe what caused it than is causing it now.
Great Big RED FLAG!
Here again maybe it is just Mother Nature doing her thing. We need to do all we can to clean up pollution, but it shouldn't be done so a select few can become wealthly with solutions like cap and trade.
I will be covering more information from Bjorn Lomborg, who seens to have a handle on a better way and more effieient way to spend tax dollars.
